Pyotr Buslov
A Russian film director, screenwriter, producer.
He was born on June 1st, 1976, in Khabarovsk, at the Far East.
In 2003, he graduated from the Film Director Faculty of the Gerasimov Institute of Cinematography (at first in Karen Shakhnazarov’s workshop, later in Vadim Abdrashitov’s workshop). During his second year in the Gerasimov Institute, he made a yearly project together with the cameraman Daniil Gurevich – the film Hard Work of Old Moiras.
Buslov’s diploma work, his first full-featured film Bumer (produced by Sergey Chliyants) was released in 2003. It starred the Gerasimov Institute graduates Vladimir Vdovichenkov, Andrey Merzlikin, Maxim Konovalov and Sergey Gorobchenko. The film became a great success both with public and with professional critics. Boomer was one of the first Russian films shot after the economic crisis of the end of 1990s to be a commercial success. With a budget of $700,000, it grossed $1.67 million. The film also won the 2004 prize of the Nika National Film Academy for Best Film Music (Sergey Shnurov) as well as a number of awards at other festivals (Main Prize for the Best Film at the Spirit of Fire Film Festival in Khanty-Mansiysk, Special Prize of the Jury for the Best Debut at the 11th Window to Europe Film Festival in Vyborg).
In 2006, a sequel of the film was shot, Bumer 2 (Heaven on Earth) (produced by Sergey Selyanov and Sergey Chliyants). In 2009, Buslov directed the short film Urgent Repair that made part of the film almanac Crush, that started the 20th Kinotavr Film Festival and was shown at the 66th Venice Film Festival. In 2011, Buslov finished work on the film Vysotsky: Thank God I’m Alive produced by Anatoly Maximov and Konstantin Ernst. Vysotsky became one of the leaders of the Russian box office, grossing more than $27 million.
